| I finally got around to trying out the Booty Barre: Total New Body DVD that I received as a participant in Beth Aldrich's Real Moms Love to Eat Food Affariate program. And let me tell you - it worked me OUT! Granted, I haven't had So, I guess I can forgive myself for taking Tracey's invitation to do the modifications or take a break if the burn got too intense. I'm so out of shape! But overall, I really liked the Booty Barre: Total New Body DVD. It got my heart-rate up, was energetic without being too exhausting, and really targeted the areas that it promised to! |
As a former professional dancer, I appreciated Tracey's appropriate use of ballet terminology as well as reminders to use correct posture when executing the combinations in the Booty Barre: Total Body Workout. Because I had years of experience at ballet barre in my past, I took very easily to the workout, and it was all very comfortable for me. But even someone without ballet training could do this workout easily, correctly and without injury. Tracey is very descriptive and helpful about posture and execution of the workout combos.
Personality A Plus
I was especially pleased with the way that Tracey led the workout, and the fact that not all of the ladies behind her were stick skinny and ripped! Also enjoyable was Tracey's demeanor as a trainer. Upbeat, but not pushy. Supportive and sweet. I was given a second wind at least twice by encouraging comments and reminders.
Space Requirements and Equipment
My living room area is small. So, some workout DVDs just don't fit in the space I have. This one fit just fine, though I did have to rearrange the way I was angled and the position of the chair I was using for a barre during the battement/lunge section of the barre section.
The only equipment you need for this workout is a sturdy chair and a set of 3-5 lb dumbbells. I didn't have dumbbells on hand, so I used jars of peanut butter, which weigh in at 16oz (so, 1 lb) instead. If you don't want to invest in a pair of dumbbells before you know if this at-home exercise is for you, you can still get a workout in the upper body portion without the dumbbells (although with the smaller weight, I didn't feel as much burn as I expected, so I'll be getting some 3 lb dumbbells soon).

All in all, I really loved Tracey Mallett's Booty Barre: Total Body Workout. I look forward to trying her other titles and also getting back to dance class sometime in the near future. If you're looking for a fun, effective workout that is low-impact and helps with weight loss, muscle tone, and flexibility, this is a good bet. Make sure to let me know if you try it!
Have you tried Tracey Mallett's Booty Barre workouts?
What home-exercise DVDs do you enjoy?

Great post, Amy! I'm coming back from a back/hip injury & haven't been in dance class, but I love doing exercise DVDs at home. I will have to check this out!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely check it out. It's low impact, and as a dancer, you'd catch on real easily! It's also super-easy to adapt the modifications to any comfort level. Great to hear from ya, Cassandra! Hope you recover quickly from your injury! Take care!
