The Penis Proclamation

We are all for anatomically correct names for our body parts in the Willa household. We tell it like it is. We want our children to know the proper terms for all their body parts and not feel ashamed of the anatomically correct terms.

But this past summer, when Joseph was about 4 months old, we were relaxing in the backyard, splashing in the wading pool, when Abbey suddenly said:

"Mommy, I have a vagina, and you have a vagina, and daddy has a penis and so does baby Joe."

I confirmed for her that, yes, she was correct.

"Well, that's just not fair! I want a penis too!"

Seriously. . . did you just say (or more correctly, shout) that?

And she repeatedly asked me why she could not have a penis. . . until I distracted her and sent her into fits of giggles by spraying her playfully with the hose.

    1. I guess I should specify that I sprayed her with the giraffe on the kiddie pool that connects to the hose. . . and it was playful, not as if I was spraying a dog with a spritz bottle or something! LOL Thanks for reading

  2. Moira used to cry and ask when her penis would grow in. Poor disappointed child.
