But Finnian's Montessori Room (above) over at Sew Liberated got me thinking about how - oh how- to incorporate my background in and love for the Montessori method with the toys that Joseph already loves to play with, and the space that we have in his room.
On Sleeping . . .
I'm thinking at this point, that I'll simply leave his mattress on the floor for the time being - maybe until we move again (he'll be around 2 when we're due for another PCS).
I had purchased a soft bedrail, determined to find an inexpensive, low bed frame for his mattress that could utilize the bedrail. . . but now, seeing Finnian's room, I'm thinking there's really no need for a frame at all.
I'm sure I could make a nice vinyl mural using my cricut machine, vinyl, and a cricut cartridge. . . (I'm thinking nature-inspired, and the woodland creatures in the Campin' Critters cartridge - below - caught my eye) . . . and I've been toying with the idea of sewing a madras inspired quilt for Joseph. . . and that fits with the "camping" and "nature" theme. . . more on that in another post.

On a Color Scheme. . .
Though I like the natural tones in Finnian's Montessori Room (picture above) . . . I am inspired to create a lively and colorful room for Joe - I think it fits his personality and our family. I'm really liking the look of pale yellow, red, and baby blue together. . . there's something about primary colors that seems inherently and timelessly childlike to me.
I don't want his room to look like a baby's nursery or a brightly colored day care setting. . . I want it to be a montessori inspired little boy's room. He'll be a year old soon, and it's time to start thinking more about how I want his room to be, so that it can be his!
I'll be back next week with some more ideas, and later on with some actual progress on putting Joseph's room together.

How did you decorate your son's room?
Have you seen any creative Montessori or nature inspired children's rooms worth noting?

I love all the ideas! In both of the kids' rooms, I have books out for easy acess and I'm going to try and refinish a different dresser for my son's room so he can get to his clothes with less effort. He shows no real interest in actually dressing himself, but he is now at a point where he's interested in choosing the clothes. Every little bit, right?!
ReplyDeleteYep! Every little bit! I should make a dressing area for Joe with two or three outfits for him to choose from - if only to prevent the craziness that is Abbey's room every morning when she empties her dresser out!
